Our Board of Directors

Carolina Bible Camp is led by many Christian servants who give their time as summer camp counselors, workers, volunteers, and supporters. The mission of CBC is entrusted to a Board of Directors who are committed to carrying on the traditions and values of Christian youth camping in North Carolina. These servants come from all across our state and are engaged at CBC in a variety of ways.

David Allgood

"I have many close friends that I met through CBC. Johnny Melton, Dennis Conner, Gustavo Prato, Michael and Megan Payne, Kirk Sams, Andy King. Not to mention the many campers I have met working with camp. One of my favorite things is to see folks grow up at camp and then continue walking with the Lord in their lives. Then to see these folks become volunteers and continuing the legacy."

David began volunteering at CBC in 1982 and has been a counselor, teacher, kitchen volunteer, head counselor, and assistant director. After serving as the director of Week 2 for over 15 years, David is now a Week 2 teacher and canteen helper, and can be seen volunteering at the Bluegrass Festival. David is the chairman of the CBC board.

David and his wife, Kathy, have been married since 1996 and have 4 children who all attended as campers. Two of their sons have been counselors, while Kathy has served in the kitchen for many years and is a big help to him as chairman. David is an elder at  Fuquay-Varina church of Christ in Fuquay-Varina, NC, where he also teaches and leads singing. He is president of DavidSon Home Crafters, Inc, a small building company that focuses mainly on residential building and remodeling, doing limited commercial jobs as well.

Byron Branch

“I started attending camp as a junior camper and returned every year throughout my childhood, teenage, and college years. I participated as a junior camper, camper, kitchen worker,  junior counselor, counselor, lifeguard, teacher, and devotional speaker. Through the many summers and countless weeks I spent at camp, I developed some of my closest friendships and unforgettable childhood memories. My decision to accept and follow Christ occurred at Carolina Bible Camp, influenced by the experiences, education, friendships, and mentors I had at camp. For me, Carolina Bible Camp was always an anticipated time of year. I was attracted to the social and entertaining aspects of camp. Carolina Bible Camp attracted me to Christ.”

Byron started attending CBC as a junior camper in 1990, and returned every summer through his college years. Byron participated as a camper, kitchen worker, counselor, lifeguard, teacher, and devotional speaker.

Byron and his wife, Sarah, have been married since 2009 and have 4 children who attend multiple weeks throughout the summer, with Sarah serving as precamper director at week 7. Byron is a physician in Charlotte, NC, and attends Providence Road Church of Christ.

Greg Brewer

“When I was 8 years old, I first came to CBC for a week with my mother, who was serving as the camp nurse. At that time, the camp was not in its current permanent location. I remember my mother treating quite a few bee stings that week. We used to hike to the top of the mountain and drink out of the spring. Back then, camp moved periodically like gypsies until some wise folks like Jack Harris, Wilson Burton, and Emol Fails spear-headed a drive to establish the Mocksville location.”

Greg has been attending CBC since 1966 as a camper and kitchen volunteer. Greg now serves on the executive committee and as the chairman of the CBC Bluegrass Festival. This is our largest single fundraiser for the camp each year. It is a year-long ongoing project. His job involves everything from securing artists, ordering wristbands, setting up the ticketing site, putting up posters and drafting contracts, to actually setting up tents and chairs, sweeping floors, and making sure autographs get signed. It keeps us busy but is well worth the effort.

Greg has been married to his wife, Lisa, since 1982. Lisa serves in the kitchen at camp. She is also the Executive Director and “go-to” person for the Bluegrass Festival. Their two sons also attended CBC and help with the festival each year. Greg is a deacon at Wilkesboro church of Christ in Wilkesboro, NC. He is the senior partner in his four-generation family law firm.

Caleb Clauset

“My (future) wife introduced me to CBC in 1994. It was Kirk Sams' week, and she and I were both counselors and team leaders. It was, and continues to be, such a great week with a strong focus on Bible knowledge and team competition. She and I were a great team, decisively winning the competition in 1994 and 1995 before Kirk made us compete against each other (where we came in #1 and #2…). It's fun to see our team's names emblazoned on the wall of glory in the dining hall… but it's even more special to see those campers back as parents and volunteers!”

Caleb has been attending CBC since 1994 as a camper, counselor, and teacher. He currently volunteers weeks 1 and 6 and serves on the communications committee on the board.

Caleb and his wife, Andrea, have been married since 1998. All three of their kids attend CBC as campers Weeks 1 and 7 while Caleb and Andrea volunteer Week 6. They love CBC and everything that it represents for their family. It truly is the place to be! Caleb is a deacon at South Fork church of Christ in Winston-Salem, NC. He works remotely for an Australian publishing software developer that designs solutions that are used all over the world to automate all sorts of documents (from travel guides to product manuals to financial disclosures and medical journals). It's given him the opportunity to both travel the world and to be more engaged with his family, church, and community.

Dennis Conner

“Two memories come to mind- I always loved Chester Rainwater leading us in “Arky, Arky” and Friday night singings, especially when we lift high our joined hands as we sing some of those powerful songs!”

Dennis first came to CBC as a camper in 1963 and has not missed a year since! Prior to becoming a weekly Director in 1988 he had served in various staff capacities as counselor, teacher, athletic director and educational director. He is now the director of Week 6 (Senior Week) and has served on the Board of Directors since 1982.

Dennis was married to Terre Crosslin for 35 years before she succumbed to cancer and then married Sherie Lutz in 2011. He has 6 grandchildren (three with Sherie). CBC has been a lifelong passion and has blessed him with many of his dearest friends. Sherie has served at Week 6 for many years. They met at CBC in 1975 and had been friends for 36 years when they married! Dennis has spent 45 years in ministry and recently retired as preacher of Brooks Avenue church of Christ in January 2022.

Stephen Flatt

“My wife and I were friends as campers at CBC and started dating after college. Many of my closest friends are from CBC. So many memories as a camper and staff, from watching friends be baptized, worship services/devos, bonding with campers in my cabin, and spending time with Chester Rainwater. It is no understatement to say that CBC changed my life and allowed me to grow closer to God.”

Stephen has been attending CBC since 1989 as a camper, counselor, teacher, kitchen volunteer, and head counselor. He currently serves as head counselor at Week 6, serves as Vice-Chair of the board, and is on the fundraising committee.

Stephen and his wife, Barbara, were married in 2005 and have two children who have experienced one week of camp as pre-campers so far. He is a deacon at NoDa Church of Christ in Charlotte, NC, and works as a police officer with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

Seth Garcia

“Some of my most cherished memories of worship come from CBC Friday Night Singing at Week 2 and Week 6. Even in some of the most grandiose churches and in the beauty and grandeur of nature, I haven't experienced the presence of God in the way I have in the cafeteria of Carolina Bible Camp on Friday nights.”

Seth Garcia began attending camp in 2005, and it has been a staple of his summers ever since. Seth met many of his closest friends and most impactful mentors at CBC, and he wouldn’t be the minister, Christian, or person he is today without the incredible experiences he has had at camp over the past 20 years. There is nowhere where Seth feels more at home or himself than at CBC. Seth attends Week 2, where he is the education director, and Week 6.

Seth is married to Molly, and they live in Raleigh, where Seth is the preaching minister at North Raleigh Church of Christ.

Jules Gilbeau

“CBC is a place where I can exchange business attire for wacky shirts and crazy hats, let my hair down, and see how the love of Jesus can change hearts.”

Jules' wife, Kim, and daughters Lily and Josey have looked forward to summers at CBC since 2015.  In 2021, Jules attended Week 7 as a teacher and has returned each summer since as a head counselor.

Originally from south Louisiana, Jules and Kim married in 1997 and have enjoyed many adventures together, including homeschooling their girls.

Jules' career in Healthcare Administration brought them to Greensboro, NC in 2001. He began teaching the adult classes at Northwest church of Christ. He has served as deacon of education at Northwest since 2006.  He truly has a passion for teaching and studying the scriptures. With 25+ years of training and experience in management and leadership development, Jules hopes to offer his professional and spiritual talents to CBC. He is committed to building on the longstanding tradition of CBC and leading towards an even brighter future for all the generations to come.  All to the glory of God.

Bobby Grigsby

“Many of my most meaningful friendships are related to CBC.  My favorite times surround worship, particularly Week 6 Friday night singings.”

Bobby has been attending CBC since 1994, serving as a teacher and song leader. While he doesn’t work a particular week at this point, he usually gets to be at camp for some of every week since he is the “local” board member.

Bobby and his wife, Bonnie, have been married since 1991. Bonnie has served as head counselor for Week 6 and Winter Camp. Bobby has served as CBC’s treasurer since 2001. Keeping the bills paid means camp is a year-round event for him! Bobby is the Young Adult Minister at Jericho church of Christ in Mocksville, NC. He has been an optometrist for 31 years, practicing just down the road from CBC in Salisbury, NC. This has allowed him to be of service for a few camper and staff eye emergencies and broken glasses through the years.

Joseph Hodge

“Every time I attended camp as a camper, I went in knowing I was going to walk out having grown as a person, as a Christian, and in my relationships. What particularly stood out to me were the off-campus service opportunities that 6th Week provided to us. Dennis Conner and his staff always challenged us as campers to "walk the walk" and get outside our comfort zones rather than insulate ourselves from the world around us. CBC ultimately isn't about the week you attend, but what you do to make the world a better place in the time subsequent to your attendance. CBC, specifically Week 2 and Week 6, were incredibly formative to who I am today.”

Joseph has been attending CBC since 2013 as a camper, counselor, teacher, kitchen volunteer, and athletic director. He currently volunteers at Week 2 with his wife, Julie. Together they serve as co-athletic directors and host events such as the much-anticipated basketball tournament, games of street hockey, posh awards show known as “The CBCs,” and occasionally a late-night talk show known as "2nd Week Tonight."

Joseph and his wife, Julie, have been married since 2016 and have 2 children who attend CBC as pre-campers. His dad was also a volunteer at Week 2 throughout his time as a camper. Joseph attends North Raleigh Church of Christ and works for First Citizens Bank as an environmental risk manager, ensuring that environmental liability and costs are minimized in the bank’s collateral portfolio.

Daniel Isom

“After attending camp as a junior camper, I became heavily involved in sports during summers as a senior camper and didn’t attend again until the summer before college. After meeting a Lipscomb Ambassador during a wonderful Week 6 at camp, I decided to switch from attending a state school in NC to Lipscomb less than a month before school started. Lipscomb was a great place to spend my college years and it’s only because of CBC that I ended up there.”

Daniel began attending CBC in 1993 as a junior camper. He and his family now attend a combination of Weeks 2, 6, and 7, where Daniel serves as a counselor, worship leader, and security guard. Daniel and his wife, Katie, have been married since 2018 and have 5 children, who all attend CBC as campers and precampers. Katie is a head counselor at Week 2, a lifeguard at Week 7, and has taught precampers at Week 6.

Daniel is the President of Spectrum Hospitality Management. His company manages operations of multiple hotels throughout North and South Carolina. Daniel and his family attend Wilkesboro Church of Christ, where he is the deacon of worship.

Gustavo Prato

“The summer of 2006 marked the first time my children attended camp at CBC. In 2008, a group from Brewer Rd began a tradition of attending Second Week. Every year, a large group from Brewer Rd eagerly looks forward to spending time at CBC.It’s always a joy to hear the stories, fun memories, and valuable lessons shared by my own children as well as those in our congregation. CBC has been an incredible place for spiritual growth, fostering new, lasting friendships, and creating unforgettable memories for our children at Brewer Rd.”

Gustavo Prato and his family relocated to Winston-Salem in 2006. He and his wife, Sheryl, have three children and three grandchildren. Sheryl is a registered nurse at the Spine Center with Atrium Health. Gustavo serves as an elder at the Brewer Rd. Iglesia de Cristo in Winston-Salem, and is one of three full-time ministers in the congregation. Currently, Gustavo is pursuing a Doctoral degree in Ministry from Abilene Christian University.

Brittany Sullivan

“Summertime at CBC has always been my favorite part of the year. When I was growing up, I loved getting to know the staff and older campers who were visibly and actively living for Christ — they helped give me a roadmap of faithfulness for my own life and hardships, and several have become lifelong friends. Many of my fondest memories are at CBC worshipping together on Friday nights, belly-laughing in the cabins with friends, playing criss-cross-croquet-of-chaos on the lawn, and growing my faith with the people I love. It is a joy and a privilege to continue coming to camp as an adult. I love that my family and I get to be a part of this long legacy of brothers and sisters coming together to share God’s transformative love every summer.”

Brittany started coming to CBC as a camper in 1997 and has since served as a counselor and teacher. She is now on the education team at Week 6, serves various roles at Week 2, has been a counselor at Week 1, and manages the CBC website.

Brittany and her husband, John, have been married since 2010 and have one daughter who loves coming to CBC. Brittany’s work experience is in non-profits doing fundraising, design, project management, and communications. She is now working with Generis on a consulting team for churches, non-profits, camps, and schools to help raise funds and provide strategic counsel. She and her family live in the woods outside Nashville, TN, and attend Brentwood Hills Church of Christ, where they are involved in the youth group.

Scott Woollens

“I was blessed with a good friendship with Mr. Billy Voss, who was involved with CBC for many years as caretaker as well as teacher. Mr. Billy's enthusiasm for young people and the mission of the camp was infectious.”

Scott’s kids started coming to CBC as campers in the mid-90's, and his wife Carol served as a volunteer. Scott and Carol routinely volunteer during the Bluegrass festival in the kitchen, enjoying the many familiar faces who return each year for good music and good food. They were married in 1982 and have 3 grown children. Scott is an elder at Raleigh Church of Christ and serves as the secretary of the CBC board. He retired in 2023 after over 30 years in vaccine research, development, and manufacturing.
